Job Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) professional provides oversight and support for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Life Safety (LS), and Emergency Management (EM) programs within assigned healthcare facilities. This role partners with hospital leaders, facilities, clinical teams, and other stakeholders to promote a safe environment and maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
The ideal candidate brings experience working within a hospital or acute-care environment and a strong foundation in healthcare safety, regulatory compliance, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), facilities, emergency management, or a related discipline. Candidates are not expected to have direct experience in every area listed below.
Essential Functions
• Support and provide oversight for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Life Safety, and Emergency Management programs within assigned facilities.
• Partner with hospital leadership and departments to identify, assess, and reduce environmental, health, and safety risks.
• Coordinate and support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) meetings, safety assessments, inspections, and corrective action activities.
• Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, local, accreditation, and healthcare safety requirements.
• Review incident, occurrence, and risk data to identify trends and recommend opportunities to improve safety.
• Participate in construction and renovation planning and inspections, including applicable life safety and infection prevention considerations.
• Develop, maintain, and support facility emergency operations plans and emergency preparedness activities.
• Provide guidance to hospital departments, clinics, and other facilities regarding environmental health and safety matters.
• Support hazardous materials management, environmental monitoring, documentation, training, and emergency response activities, as appropriate.
• Collaborate across departments to address compliance findings and drive continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum of 2 years of related professional experience within a hospital or acute-care healthcare environment.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Environment of Care
• Healthcare safety
• Life safety
• Emergency management or preparedness
• Regulatory compliance
• Facilities or healthcare operations
• Environmental health and safety
• Ability to interpret policies, standards, and regulatory requirements and apply them within a healthcare environment.
• Ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, and leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge or experience with The Joint Commission Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Life Safety, and/or Emergency Management standards.
• Familiarity with one or more of the following:
• NFPA standards
• OSHA requirements
• CMS requirements
• Texas DSHS requirements
• Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
• Healthcare construction safety
• Infection prevention considerations related to construction
• Hazardous materials management
• Emergency preparedness
• Experience participating in regulatory surveys, accreditation readiness, inspections, or corrective action plans.
• Experience facilitating committees, managing projects, or leading process improvement initiatives within a healthcare setting.
